Picnic Fun

Our Independence Day celebration started out with our annual church picnic Sunday evening.  Normally all the fun starts in the afternoon, but they pushed everything back to 6:30 because of the extreme heat.  Our temps have reached 107 this week!  We got there around 7 p.m. and it was actually not too bad.
There were plenty of bouncy houses, slides, and games for the kids to play.  One thing the kids always love is the rock wall.  Last year Mia got about 5 feet off the ground and decided that was enough.  This year she was determined to make it to the top, and she did!  Not to be outdone, Jackson scaled it right after Mia.  We also had Max with us this year and he made it to the top as well.  Parker and Ezra took off as soon as we arrived, and we hardly saw them again until it was time for fireworks.  Everett spotted the train from the parking lot and Nana took him to ride it, but he chickened out at the last minute.  I think he likes the idea of riding trains more than actually getting on them.  When it starting getting dark Nana broke out the glow swords and necklaces.  Everyone cooled off with ice cream and watermelon and settled down around 9 p.m. to watch the fireworks.  All the kids sat together and loved them.  Everett hated them (again).  He not only wanted me to cover his ears, but he closed his eyes as tight as he could.  I know he will more than likely love it next year, and it made me a little sad to think this was probably the last year that one of my kids would want me to hold them during the fireworks.  The show was great as usual, and we all went home exhausted.  Now we are looking forward to a fun 4th on Wednesday!
